My wife and I considered living in Playa Vista, a planned development near Marina Del Rey on the west side of Los Angeles.  We added our names to the interest list early for a specific complex it didn't work out.

Instead, we ended up buying in the beach town of Hermosa Beach and the eastern Sierra mountain town of Mammoth Lakes.  Mammoth Lakes is the town next to the Mammoth Mountain ski area.
